The 9th ISS “Resist Dyeing on the Silk Road: Shibori & Ikat from Ancient to Future”(tbc), will be taking place in Hangzhou, China, hosted by the China National Silk Museum(CNSM 中国絲绸博物館) and World Shibori Network(ワールド絞りネットワーク). The symposium will be a five day program in Hangzhou, including a plenary session with keynote speakers; presentation of scholarly papers and technical demonstrations; on-site conservation seminars; guided tours of exhibitions; workshops; day tours to Haining City and surrounds; optional two-day field trip to herb market, indigo farm and clamp resist artisan in Wenzhou. There will be a post-conference tour to Xianjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region 新疆维吾尔自治区 including 吐魯(Tǔlǔfān), 乌鲁木齐(Ürümqi ئۈرۈمچى ), 喀什(Kāshíقەشقەر or Kāshígé’ěr) and 和田 (Hétián خوتەن) and extension to Xi’An.

The 9th ISS will be comprised of these proposed topics:

  • Archaeology 考古學
  • Ethnography
  • Fashion 時尚 & Costume 服装
  • Art 藝術
  • Compression Resist 防染印花
  • Conservation 文物修復

The International Shibori Symposium is a platform for artists, artisans, designers, scientists, scholars, academic institutions, industries, galleries and museums to come together and discuss a wide range of issues. The ISS connects and creates an international open exchange, both preserving tradition and promoting new developments through contemporary adaptations. First held in 1992 in Nagoya, Japan, the ISS is organized by the World Shibori Network (www.shibori.org)and has convened a total of eight times in culturally rich textile regions across the globe: Japan 1992 & 2005; India 1996; Chile 1999; UK 2002; Australia 2004; France 2008; Hong Kong 2011; ISS Hangzhou 2014 will be our ninth.

    excelente pero es costoso y apenas soy una persona que estoy haciendo estas tecnicas pero en telas o practicando me gustaria conocer mas sobre la tecnica de shibori aqui en Colombia son pocos los cursos que dictan o no conozco gracias.
